STRENGTHENING THE RESPONSE TO CLIMATE CHANGE IN DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMING: A REGIONAL CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP (4 DAYS)

Climate Change is emerging as a critical concern for many Countries in Africa, but many institutions are struggling with the Concept. There are serious capacity concerns around conducting vulnerability assessments and developing and implementing adaptation strategies. This workshop aims at strengthening the capacity of participants to understand the concept of climate change, vulnerability, climate change adaptation and help them identify practical mechanisms for addressing the challenges of Climate Change in development.

Topics:

The Workshop topics will include:

  • Understanding Climate Change concepts, international policy framework.
  • Frameworks, and tools for vulnerability analysis and climate change adaptation.
  • Understanding the impacts of Climate Change in developing countries, with specific focus on Africa.
  • Climate Change-Sensitive Development Programming.
  • Climate Change and the challenges of under-development:
    - HIV and AIDS
    - Conflict
    - Food insecurity
  • Exploring best practice approaches to responding in different contexts:
  • Environmental conservation programmes
  • International and national agreements and actions
  • Private sector and Civil society responses
  • Practices by households and communities
    - Gender considerations in climate change impact analysis and response.
    - Developing an organizational Climate change strategy and action plan.

Participants:

The Course is open to people working in various sectors including Agriculture, HIV and AIDS, public administration, policy and advocacy – in NGOs, Private Sector institutions and Government

Course fees:

US $1,200 for course work, certification, lunches, teas and snacks BUT excludes accommodation, dinner, travel and per diems.
