EXPLORING EVIDENCE, STRENGTHENING ACTION: EASTERN
AND SOUTHERN AFRICA SYMPOSIUM ON PRIVATE SECTOR RESPONSES TO HIV AND AIDS IN THE
WORKPLACE
8-12 SEPTEMBER 2009, NAIROBI, KENYA
The Regional Capacity Building Partners (RECABIP) is pleased to announce the Eastern and Southern African Symposium on Private Sector Responses to HIV and AIDS, scheduled to take place in Nairobi - Kenya between 8th and 12th September 2009.
Considering the numbers of people employed by businesses across the region, the response to HIV and AIDS in the private sector would produce some significant results. However, a lot of businesses are struggling to respond to HIV and AIDS. Generally the response hardly matches the problem, and the needs of vulnerable groups, people living with HIV and those affected by the pandemic remain largely unattended. This leads to reduced productivity and declining profits. As the global epicentre of the HIV and AIDS pandemic, Eastern and Southern Africa needs to provide leadership in the response to the pandemic.
The 3-day Symposium provides an opportunity for participants to explore ways in which businesses and other actors can come together in a more dynamic way not only to respond to HIV and AIDS in their workplaces, but also to support community action to respond to the pandemic. Participants will share practical experiences, identify gaps in responses and develop practical action plans for strengthening cross-regional partnership and learning on responding to HIV and AIDS in the private sector.
The Symposium Secretariat calls for papers from researchers, practitioners, policy makers and academicians to present Abstracts to be considered for presentation during the Symposium:
